The summer break is here; time to breathe, relax, catch up on sleep (no alarms, yay!), enjoy the sunshine and picnics. But what if you could do something meaningful and come away with experiences that stay with you longer than the sunshine?
That is Volunteering.
Giving you a chance to grow, explore, connect, make friends and have fun.
Here’s why you should consider it:
- Boosts your CV (and your confidence)– by volunteering, you are showing care, commitment, teamwork and contribution. These are some key skills that employers look for when you are applying for that dream job.
- Meet new people- Volunteering brings like-minded people together. You’ll meet new faces, make friends and maybe find mentors. It is a brilliant way to connect with your community – and feel like you are apart of something wider too, which has an impact.
- Exploring New Paths (or securing your dream)- Got that degree but need experience to get to the next step to secure your dream job? Volunteering is your best friend. Explore local services within your degree’s field and see if they need any help. It doesn’t have to be forever, or all day, just a couple of hours.
- Extremely Flexible- No 9-5 hours with Volunteering, it will fit around all your summer holidays, for sure!
- Great for your Mental Health– Sure, volunteering helps others—but it can also help you feel better, too. By boosting your self-esteem, mood and reducing loneliness, stress and anxiety.
Where to start?
Contact us through our website and become a Studenteer. Fill out a form with your contact details and areas of interests and we will send through organisations who have volunteering opportunities available and put you through to them (a matching process).
Check out local businesses social pages or give them a call/email volunteering your time. Let’s face it, that’s the biggest step reaching out. They have 2 choices, but don’t be disheartened if the answer isn’t what you wanted, keep searching.
Check out national volunteering websites such as: National Council For Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) or Royal Voluntary Service.
This summer don’t just pass the time- make it count.
Give a little. Learn a lot. Change your experiences and make someone’s day.
You’ll never know, unless you try.
Remember we have volunteering opportunities being posted to our socials regularly.
You’ve got this.
Good luck!
Until next time,
Sarah x
